Cold-pressed hammerheads

The use of the genuine Dolgen-Press which originates from the nineteen twenties is the basis for the production of hammerheads in a traditional way, as it was developed during a period when piano building was at its peak. Even now piano builders and pianists worldwide value the tone and quality of these old hammerheads, when found in good condition.

The common use of heat during the compression process allows a fast production by curing the glue, but drastically reduces the elasticity of the felt structure. That’s why it’s usually being attempted to enhance this specific characteristic by chemical follow-up treatment.

The cold-compressed process leads to higher elasticity of the hammerhead felt.

The genuine Dolgen-Press enables to cold press the felt and creates a high tension on the felt surface of the hammerhead.

The result is a hammerhead and felt with superior elasticity, which easily fulfils all tonal requirements and allows optimal intonation.
